Children's Health Interventions in Mercury-polluted Environment
Children's rights movement
CHIME is an initiative to protect and improve children's health in polluted mercury environment, especially in artisanal and small scale gold mining (ASGM) villages, where mercury is (or was) used to extract gold.
Children and women, especially child-bearing age women, are classified as a vulnerable population from mercury exposure. Children, wherever they live in, have the rights to live and play in a healthy environment.
CHIME holds 4 (four) pillars of program:
-
General assessment of children's health condition and necessary medical treatment;
-
Capacity building for mothers, teachers, and health workers;
-
Promotion of alternative livelihood; and
-
CHIME house for children and mothers.
